Our professors use a variety of teaching methods to best teach each and every student. We at ECELA realize that no two people learn in the same way, so lessons and teaching strategies are varied to teach all Spanish learners.

Social and Cultural Activities

Cusco is one of the most important cities in Peru with around 400,000 people.

It is the capital of the Inca empire and offers many tourist attractions. The Plaza de Armas is the city center, and there you will find La Catedral (Cathedral) and the San Francisco Church. You can also visit the Temple of the Sun (Coricancha) and the White Christ, a statue of Jesus towering over the city.

In the area surrounding Cusco are the ruins of the Sacred Valley, architectural wonders that are not to be missed.

We have both a homestay program and a shared apartment program for our students.

Excursions and Visits

During the week you can explore the narrow streets and diverse museums and witness local cultural events. You can also try some delicious Peruvian cuisine!

On weekends you can visit the monuments and tourist attractions around Cusco. In the Sacred Valley lies the city of Pisaq and its craft market as well as the ruins of Chinchero and Ollantaytambo, examples of Incan urban planning. If you're an adventurous nature lover, you can take a trip to Manu National Park or Pongo de Mainique in the jungle.

Tip: Before you go to Machu Picchu, you should stay in and around Cusco for a few days. Being that both Cusco and Machu Picchu are at very high altitudes, your body will need some time to adjust. One remedy is to drink coca tea, a local drink.
